What we never promise Guaranteed approval, guaranteed returns, guaranteed access to any product, a specific tax outcome, or any specific investment result. Eligibility, product terms, taxation and investment outcomes depend on applicable rules, the relevant product provider and your individual circumstances.
Market/regulatory categories vs. Akshaya-verified availability The routes, account types and investment categories on this page reflect the general regulatory and market framework for NRI investment in India, described here for education and planning. This does not mean Akshaya Finvest currently distributes every product or that every option is available to every NRI — a specific investment-provider/fund partnership is named only once formally confirmed, see Verified Partners. Talk to an advisor to check current availability for your specific residency and requirement.

Investing in India as an NRI depends on several things working together: your NRI/OCI status and country of residence, the account route you fund from, and the specific product's own eligibility rules. This page walks through each of those step by step. Eligibility depends on applicable RBI/SEBI/AMFI rules, product terms, KYC requirements, tax/residency requirements, country restrictions and the specific financial institution or product — not every product is available to every NRI, and we do not guarantee approval, returns or universal access.

NRE, NRO & FCNR

The route you fund from can matter for both investing and repatriation.

NRE — Non-Resident External

NRE accounts hold foreign-sourced funds remitted from overseas. Repatriation of eligible balances is generally permitted, subject to applicable RBI rules, account terms and current requirements.

NRO — Non-Resident Ordinary

NRO accounts are commonly used for income arising in India. Repatriation is subject to applicable RBI limits, tax requirements, certification and account/product rules.

FCNR — Foreign Currency Non-Resident

A foreign-currency-denominated deposit structure that avoids exchange-rate fluctuation on the deposit itself, subject to applicable bank/account terms and rules. It is primarily a deposit product rather than a route typically used to directly fund market-linked investments.

Not a blanket rule We do not state that all investments can be funded or repatriated through every account type. Applicable funding, repatriation and tax treatment depend on the account type, investment product, applicable regulations and the specific financial institution — confirm the right route for your situation with your advisor and, where relevant, your bank.

NRI Investment Options

Subject to applicable rules and product eligibility — not automatically available to every NRI.

Mutual Funds

Subject to applicable regulations, KYC and fund-house eligibility.

Systematic Investment / SIP

Disciplined, periodic investing where the AMC/product permits NRI participation.

Equity-Oriented Investments

Market-linked, higher-volatility categories subject to eligibility.

Retirement Planning

Longer-horizon, goal-based planning for retirement in India or elsewhere.

Children's Education Planning

Goal-based planning for a child's future education costs.

Long-Term Wealth Planning

A multi-year approach to building wealth, not a short-term product.

Other Eligible Solutions

Other investment solutions may exist — ask your advisor about your specific goal.

Mutual Funds for NRIs

NRIs may invest in Indian mutual funds, subject to applicable regulations, KYC requirements, fund-house/product eligibility, country restrictions, account/funding requirements and tax/reporting requirements. Not every fund house accepts NRI investors from every country — some fund houses currently apply additional restrictions for NRIs resident in certain countries, due to the extra compliance obligations involved, and this list of participating fund houses changes over time. Your advisor can help confirm current options for your specific country of residence.

Direct and regular mutual fund plans can have different cost structures and distributor-involvement models — this should be discussed with an appropriate advisor as part of your suitability assessment, not assumed.

What to Check Before You Invest

  • Whether your specific fund house currently accepts NRI investors from your country of residence.
  • The applicable KYC, PAN and tax-reporting requirements for your NRI/OCI status.
  • Whether you are being offered a Direct or Regular plan, and the cost/distributor-involvement difference between them.
  • Any country-specific restrictions that may apply due to additional compliance obligations.
What we don't promise We do not promise, guarantee or assure any specific rate of return, and we do not recommend a specific mutual fund without an appropriate suitability process. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risk; please read all scheme-related documents carefully.

NRI KYC

Information That May Be Required

  • NRI/OCI status and country of residence
  • PAN (Permanent Account Number)
  • Passport and overseas address proof
  • Indian address details, where applicable
  • Tax residency information
  • FATCA/CRS self-certification, where applicable
  • Bank/account information, collected through the appropriate secure process

How We Handle It on This Website

  • We do not collect sensitive documents through a public enquiry form.
  • We do not ask visitors to upload passports, bank statements or financial documents through an unsecured general enquiry form.
  • The website initially captures only minimum enquiry information (name, contact details, area of interest).
  • Actual documentation is handled through the appropriate secure and authorized process, once your advisor connects with you.

Country of Residence

Your country of residence can affect product availability, onboarding requirements and applicable documentation. Some countries carry additional compliance requirements for Indian fund houses and financial institutions (for example, FATCA-related obligations for US-resident investors), which is why not every product or fund house is open to NRIs from every country. We do not claim that NRIs from every country can invest in every product — where country-specific restrictions apply to your situation, your advisor will confirm what is currently available.

Repatriation & Liquidity

Repatriation treatment can differ depending on the investment, the source of funds, the NRE/NRO/FCNR route used, applicable RBI rules, the specific product's terms, tax requirements and the financial institution's own procedures. Investments funded through an NRE route are generally more straightforward to repatriate than those funded through an NRO route, which draws on India-sourced income and is subject to applicable limits and certification requirements — but exact treatment depends on your specific case.

Not everything is freely repatriable We do not promise that all investment proceeds are freely repatriable. Repatriation is subject to applicable regulations, account type, product terms and required procedures — confirm the specifics for your investment with your advisor, your bank, and a qualified tax professional where required.
